Collecting them builds experience for the current weapon you're holding. However, whenever you kill an enemy or break the appropriate capsule, these tiny triangles that look like Doritos pop out. In the Polar Star's case, it only shoots one tiny line per press. You start off on Level 1, which is typically the weakest form that the gun has. You need to press the shoot button for every individual shot, and none of the shots even do that much damage.until you get to the experience system.Ĭave Story has a very unique EXP system for when it comes to guns. Once you do, the weapon really isn't even that good. In fact, you can only dodge enemies, and you have to do so in order to get your first gun. You start off the game with no weapons at all. You jump around various areas, and shoot enemies, while also talking to NPCs if they're there for some witty humor.

So, Cave Story is a platformer/shooter sort of game. We need to talk about the gameplay, and then why Quote would be a good fighter slot in the new Smash Brothers.

Well, we're still not done with this section. With all of you three working together, you and Curly progress into a dark room, activating the Core of the island's defense mechanism. For this recap, I'll be discussing the canon ending, which is the good ending.Īfter navigating through the Labyrinth with Curly Brace by your side, you find a giant stone blocking the exit, along with an angry Balrog, who was ditched by Misery and the Doctor. A bad ending, where you don't try and solve any problems, letting the Doctor take over the world, a normal ending, where some people are sacrificed for the greater good, and a good ending, where the true source of evil is destroyed and everyone lives. Now, here's where the story takes a turn. After defeating Toroko, you get knocked out and sent to the Labyrinth, a maze located at the heart of the island. King runs in to try and help, but gets killed in the process. Balrog grabs Toroko and forces red flowers down her throat. Balrog and Misery are both servants of the Doctor, and your new mission is to stop the Doctor and save the Mimigas!Īfter hunting a bunch of dogs (no context needed), you confront the Doctor in the red flower storehouse located in Sand Zone. However, for unknown reasons, you collapsed inside the cave, and you no longer had your instructions in your memory. You are a robot, sent to the floating island where the Mimigas reside, your purpose being to eradicate the Doctor, who is planning to use the Mimiga's reactions to red flowers in order to take over the world, along with killing all of the Mimigas. Suddenly, Professor Booster comes forward, shedding light on your backstory. After a rendezvous at the house, Sue, who escaped custody from King after explaining her situation, reunites with her brother. You rescue Kasuma, who is also joined by Professor Booster. More chaos insues, including a gigantic boss battle with Balfrog, who is Balrog turned into a giant frog by the sorceror, now known to be named Misery. Sue needs you to help get her brother, Kasuma, who was last seen in the Grasslands. After exploring for a couple minutes, you steal an old man's gun, the Polar Star.Īfter teleporting back to the village, Sue is captured by the leader, King, who will trade Toroko for Sue. You start off in a cave, with no weapons at all.

You'll need to remember that for the end of this section.Ĭave Story, released in 2001 as freeware for the PC, is a platformer adventure game where you control an amnesiac boy who, as the game's description reads, "can't even remember his own name". The most important part about Cave Story is that it, the base game, at the very least was completely made by one person, Pixel. So, if you want to skip spoilers, then skip until the big letters tell you that there are no more spoilers! Note that there WILL be spoilers for the game. So, why is Quote such a popular choice for a Smash newcomer? Well, let's just look into it, shall we? First, to understand the character, we need to understand the game, from its origins. Since then, after some, erm, shady dealings with Nicalis, the game has now reached gigantic proportions, being released on every console since the Wii, including portables. It's an indie game that first got pushed out on PC, by a man who goes by the online name Pixel. Quote is from the game Cave Story, as previously stated. We're back after a long absence to discuss a seemingly more apparent character on Nintendo consoles, and that is Quote from Cave Story. Hello everyone, I'm Bumble, and welcome, one and all, to Character Cut, where we take atleast seemingly possible character ideas and we brainstorm them a fresh moveset.
